Structural faults/defects appear on the reinforced concrete skeleton of a building on which the whole weight of the structure rests. For example, subsidence of the foundations, as shown in the photograph on the right, is an obvious structural defect. (Click on

But many structural defects have more subtle symptoms such as: cracks running across the floors, cracks in the concrete frame, jamming doors and windows.
Structural faults are sometimes confused with routine faults. Routine faults include cracks in walls (unless they're due to subsidence), rising and penetrating damp, poor decoration, etc.
